How to Make Movies at the End of the World: Spiritual Guidance for Creative Artists

As global challenges intensify, independent filmmakers and storytellers must move away from a profit-driven model toward impact-focused filmmaking. This approach prioritizes community and collective wellbeing over traditional metrics like distribution, festivals, and financial gain.

This course is designed to explore the meaning of filmmaking within our current political environment. It will equip participants with the tools to transform any creative practice into an embodied, somatic experience focused on the greater good rather than self-gain. The emphasis is not on the specific projects artists will be creating, but rather on grounding them in stillness. This process aims to shape participants into a more somatic storyteller, a practice that will inherently enhance their film projects.

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

• Producing between the spiritual and logistical — and the difference between the two offerings 
• Imagining a new way to create story, personal and community-wide transformation 
• Access to RC’s unique film development process, funder directory, funding strategies and previous successful grant applications
• Film producers will analyze the role they hold in helping give birth to a film during this critical time in our world
• Film directors will analyze their filmmaking ethos and embed critical somatic practices into their process in service of a better, more authentic final product: the movie and the community that grows from it. 
• Participants will analyze and identify their own spiritual and rest practices as media makers

• Wise Council/Elder Board 
• Full (2-page) Film Philosophy Statement
• Spiritual producing guidance and best practices for participant projects + one on one project development
• One on One mentoring/story advising sessions with Resita Cox
