Join the Duke Houston Community in Service

Roll up your sleeves and join fellow Duke alumni, families, and friends for a fun and meaningful morning of service at the Houston Food Bank.

As part of Duke Alums Engage, we’ll come together to give back to our Houston community while connecting with fellow Blue Devils. After a quick orientation, our group will jump in to inspect, sort, and pack donated food—helping the Houston Food Bank get meals where they’re needed most.

Bring the family! Children 8 and above are welcome to participate and must be accompanied by an adult.

Come lend a hand, meet other Duke families, and make a difference together.

Duties may also include lifting, working around heavy equipment, and handling food products, which may include products containing peanuts and tree nuts.

About the Houston Food Bank

The Houston Food Bank’s core purpose is to fight hunger and improve food access for people facing food insecurity in the Greater Houston area. Its official mission is “Food for better lives.” In practical terms, the Houston Food Bank works to:

  • Serve 18 counties in Southeast Texas
  • Reduce hunger and food insecurity by providing nutritious food and essential items.
  • Distribute resources through more than 1,600 community partners, including food pantries, schools, soup kitchens, shelters, and other organizations.
  • Address the underlying causes of hunger by connecting people with services such as nutrition education, health programs, job and economic support, and assistance accessing public benefits.
  • Help individuals and families achieve long-term stability, not just meet an immediate food need.
